Photovoltaic Plant at Gevgelija Wastewater Treatment Plant

2023

Project Overview

Solar Photovoltaic Plant at Gevgelija Wastewater Treatment Plant

BAR E.C.E., in cooperation with HOLINGER AG, provided consulting and engineering services for the development of a solar photovoltaic plant at the Gevgelija Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).

The project, financed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), was developed to increase the use of renewable energy at the wastewater treatment facility, reduce dependence on grid electricity and contribute to the long-term environmental and operational sustainability of the WWTP.

Renewable Energy for Sustainable Wastewater Treatment

The project builds on the broader objective of improving the sustainability and energy performance of the Gevgelija WWTP through the integration of renewable energy.

BAR E.C.E. supported the project from the assessment and planning stage through detailed engineering and preparation for procurement, providing a coordinated technical basis for implementation of the photovoltaic plant within the existing WWTP complex.

The proposed solution integrates the solar PV installation with the existing electrical infrastructure of the wastewater treatment plant, allowing renewable electricity generated on site to contribute directly to the facility’s energy needs.

From Feasibility to Tendering

BAR E.C.E.’s involvement covered the key stages required to transform the initial renewable-energy concept into an implementation-ready project.

The assignment included preparation of the Feasibility Study, development of the Detailed Design, and preparation of the technical and tender documentation required for procurement and installation.

The engineering solution addressed the integration of the photovoltaic plant within the existing WWTP infrastructure, including the necessary civil, structural and electrical aspects, grid connection and associated systems. The resulting design and tender documentation provided the technical framework for procurement and subsequent implementation of the solar PV plant.
