Project Overview

Supervision of the Skopje Wastewater Treatment Plant

BAR E.C.E. is providing engineering and construction supervision services as part of the consulting consortium led by WSP Switzerland, for the implementation of the Skopje Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) — one of the most significant environmental infrastructure projects in North Macedonia.

The consulting consortium is acting as the Engineer under the FIDIC Yellow Book Conditions of Contract for Plant and Design-Build, supporting the implementation of this major wastewater infrastructure investment.

Major Environmental Infrastructure for Skopje and entire Vardar / Axios watershed

The new wastewater treatment plant is designed to serve the capital city of Skopje, with a capacity corresponding to approximately 625,000 population equivalents for the 2035 horizon, while allowing for future extension and improvement toward 2045.

Located in the Trubarevo area on the left bank of the Vardar River, the plant will receive wastewater through the city’s main collector system for treatment before discharge in accordance with the required environmental parameters.

The project represents a major step toward improving wastewater management, protecting the Vardar River and strengthening the long-term environmental sustainability of the Skopje region.

FIDIC Engineer & Construction Supervision

As part of the international consulting team, BAR E.C.E. contributes its local engineering expertise, multidisciplinary technical knowledge and project implementation experience to the supervision and management of the works.

The assignment includes engineering and construction supervision, review and monitoring of the Contractor’s design and implementation activities, coordination of technical disciplines, monitoring of quality and progress, and support in contract administration in accordance with the FIDIC Yellow Book requirements.

Through its involvement in the project, BAR E.C.E. contributes to the delivery of a strategic environmental infrastructure investment with long-term benefits for water quality, environmental protection, public health and sustainable urban development in Skopje.
